Thermals, 1998, Sawn Wood on Wood
This artwork is one of many which are reflective of Rosalie Gascoigne's contemporary approach in material selection. Gascoigne believed the use of mostly "found" materials suited the need to be "open" to the weather. These compositions often comprise a single or a combination of wood, iron, feathers, wiring, and building materials. She claims these being the "elements" of her World. Texts in her artworks are very predominantly used. The arrangements, fragmentation and fading effects are tools for abstraction. The texts used are often as influences from crosswords and poetry.
In Thermals, Sawn wood is coated in white and rubbed so that the saw material underneath is still recognisable. The canvas is then mounted with these carefully composed Sawn wooden blocks. Minimal Paint is also scratched back from the coating in direction with the ring of the tree. Words and Symbols are then incorporated using stencils. Hand writing gestures also appears to have been used by the artist.

" Divine Comedy Paradise"

Fiona Hall:
Rhythmical, Infinitude, Enthralling
Oil and Acrylic on Canvas
Divine comedy Paradise is a direct influence from Dante's Divine Comedy. Hall uses canvas as her base and works on layers on layers of painting. These layers are carefully composed; the initial background uses a low concentration of acrylic from a range of shades between white and black. She then used a technique of manipulating wet oil on canvas. Oil mediums do not dry quickly so artists often have that option of alternating the painting after it has been painted. However no paint brush is used in that process. Hall used her fingers to create the natural rippling effect. Working from light to dark, she then places the final layer of the rectangular shape in the centre of the canvas.
This photo was taken during photography in year 10. Its the only one i haven't been tempted to throw away. It was taken for no particular reason...maybe just to appreciate the nice weather. Its Beautiful both ways... in terms of the picture you see and also the simplicity of the mind behind the lenses. As a matter of fact, the image turned out pretty artistic composition wise (clouds doesnt travel up...). The photo is very directional, the branches reach out as if eagering to touch the sky but not quite making it because the clouds are in motion. Obvious Contrasts are such as light and dark, soft and hard, stills and movement as well as ambush and freedom.

CCTV TOWER- BEIJING
The best thing about seeing great architecture is seeing it come together. I was lucky to be in beijing for 4 month during its near complete construction. To be able to stand underneath the structure and look up... the immediate response it is the overwelming "power".
...The Beijingers call it the "Big Shorts"

My Year 12 Major Work
...Justice?
...The most hectic couple of month ever. All the after school hours, nights ...mornings. layers and layers...layers gone wrong...rubbing back of layers...then more...
Its an expressive piece of work, emotional and evocative.
